DENVER (-KWGN) — The creators of a new technology are meeting with Denver law enforcement officials to help crack down on child predators.
It's a notification that a text message was sent from a child's phone. A parent may wonder who's on the other end, and this new product called 'Radar' removes the guess work.
When a message is sent to your child's phone the same message is automatically forwarded to a third phone and a computer that logs the message.
The service costs about 10 bucks a month.
The phone technology is being used for two months is currently being used for phones that use sim cards like T-Mobile and Cingular. It's being developed for phones on Verizon and Sprint.
There are already a number of law enforcement agencies interested in the crime fighting software.
Radar was launched a few weeks ago at the Colorado Springs Police Department.
Departments say it could be another line of defense against the reoccurring problem of child predators.
"It's frightening for us as police. We do these operations hopefully to track these individuals down and bring them to justice," said Sonny Jackson, a Public Information Officer with the Denver Police Department.
In an age where children grow up faster with burgeoning technology, sometimes the best way to fight technology may be with technology.
